  • Discussed about- Why do we eat food?
  • Discussed and sorted the food items depending on their sources- Plants and Animals. Conducted the activity given in PPT-1.
  • Solved the Textbook Kick start activity to introduce the chapter.
  • Discussed about the term- Nutrient and five food groups as per the nourishment given to the body-Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats, Vitamins and Minerals.

Topics taught:

  •  Recapitulation of the five food groups.
  • Explained in detail- carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals with examples using PPT-1(food that provide these nutrients).
  • Conducted an activity- To share the food item students had in breakfast along with the nutrient it provides. (Using Collaborative board-Nearpod)
  • Explained -Balanced diet, importance of roughage and water.

  • Conducted an activity to have healthy breakfast, to know the nutrients it provide and understand the role of organs of a digestive system.  
  • Students enjoyed the Digestive system song (video), shared what they brought in breakfast and discussed the nutrients they get by eating healthy food.
  • Explained the organs of digestive system, their location and functions using PPT-3.

a.One must eat food rich in fibre because it helps in easy digestion and  reduce risk of heart disease.
b. Children must eat food rich in proteins because it helps in the healthy growth of our body (development of muscles and bones).
c.because it can make one obese and lead to heart disease.
d.Because it contains vitamins which fight against diseases and keep us healthy.

Q4. Answer the following questions:

i. Digestion is the process of breakdown of large food molecules into smaller molecules so that nutrients can be absorbed easily by blood and used by the body.
Balance diet:-A diet which contains all the nutrients along with water and roughage in balanced proportions.

e.because chewing food helps to mixes it with saliva and it breaks down carbohydrates into simpler forms.

f. Four good eating habits are : 
i. Eating at regular intervals.
ii. Chewing food well before swallowing.
iii. Consume 8-10 glasses of water every day.
iv. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables.

g. mouth-The process of digestion starts in the mouth.breakdown of carbohydrates taken place here.
ii. Oesophagus:-lt carries food from mouth to the stomach.
iii. Stomach:-ln stomach food is churned and mixed with digestive juices.lt helps in breaking down proteins.
iv. Small intestine:-Here complete digestion of food takes place ( Carbohydrates,fats and proteins).
v. Large intestine:-lt absorbs water from the undigested food and forms semi solid waste.
vi. Gall bladder:-lt stores bile secrets from liver,it helps in digestion of fats.
